Indications
Symbicort is a medication indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It is used in patients who require maintenance treatment and for the relief of symptoms associated with these conditions. This medication combines a corticosteroid (budesonide) and a long-acting bronchodilator (formoterol), which reduces inflammation in the airways and improves their opening, thus facilitating breathing. It is essential that the use of Symbicort is part of a treatment plan that includes regular monitoring of lung function and patient education on managing their disease.
Composition
Each dose of Symbicort contains 320 mcg of budesonide and 9 mcg of formoterol in an inhalation powder.
Contraindications
Symbicort is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the product's components. Its use is not recommended in acute asthma episodes or in patients with severe respiratory failure.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or lung infections. Adrenal function should be monitored during prolonged treatment. Concomitant use of other medications, especially those that may affect corticosteroid metabolism, should be evaluated.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
