Indications

Stalevo is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's symptoms in patients who require levodopa therapy. This medication combines three active components: levodopa, which is converted to dopamine in the brain; carbidopa, which helps prevent the conversion of levodopa to dopamine outside the brain; and entacapone, which prolongs the effect of levodopa. It is used in patients who experience fluctuations in the control of their symptoms, especially during "off-periods" where disease symptoms may return before the next dose of levodopa. Stalevo can be used as initial treatment or as adjunctive therapy in those already being treated with levodopa and carbidopa.

Composition

Each Stalevo tablet contains 150 mg of levodopa, 37.5 mg of carbidopa, and 200 mg of entacapone.

Contraindications

Stalevo is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the components of the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with melanoma or a history of melanoma, as well as those with severe cardiovascular diseases, or those who have received monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last two weeks.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when using Stalevo in patients with cardiovascular diseases, a history of peptic ulcers, psychiatric disorders, or those who are receiving other medications that affect the central nervous system. It is important to monitor patients for possible adverse effects and adjust dosage as needed.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
