Indications
Spiriva is indicated for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in patients requiring long-term bronchodilator therapy. It is also used in patients with moderate to severe asthma as an add-on therapy to inhaled corticosteroids and other bronchodilator medications. Tiotropium acts as a muscarinic receptor antagonist, resulting in dilation of the airways and improved lung function.
Composition
Each ml of solution contains 0.226 mg of tiotropium (as tiotropium bromide) in an inhalation device, which allows direct administration to the respiratory system.
Contraindications
Spiriva is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to tiotropium, ipratropium bromide, or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in patients with a history of anaphylactic reactions to these components.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias or cardiovascular disease. The use of Spiriva should not be considered an emergency treatment for acute asthma attacks or COPD. Concomitant use with other muscarinic antagonists should be avoided. It is important to assess lung function and adjust the dose according to the patient's needs.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep the inhalation device protected from light and out of reach of children.
