Indications
Singulair (Montelukast) is indicated for the treatment and prevention of asthma symptoms in patients older than 2 years. It is also used for the relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children from 6 months of age. Montelukast works by blocking the effects of leukotrienes, which are chemical substances in the body that cause inflammation in the airways, thus facilitating breathing and reducing the allergic response. In addition, its efficacy in preventing exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in asthmatic patients has been demonstrated.
Composition
Each sachet of Singulair contains 40 mg of Montelukast. Excipients: sugar, flavoring, and coloring (see product label for specific excipient details).
Contraindications
Singulair is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used as an acute treatment for an asthma attack.
Precautions
Caution is advised when using Singulair in patients with severe liver disease, as well as in those with psychiatric disorders, as side effects have been reported in such patients. It is important to monitor patients who experience changes in behavior or mood.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
