Indications
Simlo is indicated for the treatment of primary and mixed hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used as an adjunct to an appropriate diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol and LDL levels in adult and pediatric patients over 10 years of age. It is also indicated for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with established coronary heart disease or those at high risk of cardiovascular disease. Simvastatin acts by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in cholesterol synthesis, resulting in a decrease in blood cholesterol levels and an improvement in the patient's lipid profile.
Composition
Each Simlo tablet contains: Simvastatin 20 mg, excipients q.s.
Contraindications
Simlo is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to simvastatin or any of the components of the formulation. It should not be administered to patients with active or persistent liver disease, or to those with elevated blood transaminase levels. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, or those taking other medications that may increase the risk of myopathy. It is important to periodically monitor transaminases and muscle function, as well as to evaluate the possibility of drug interactions with other medications the patient is using.
