Indications
Saphnelo (anifrolumab) is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with moderate to severe systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who have disease activity despite receiving standard treatment. This medication is indicated in patients who have experienced adverse effects to other medications or who have not achieved adequate symptom control with previous treatments. Anifrolumab acts as an interferon signaling inhibitor, which helps reduce inflammation and damage associated with SLE. It has been shown to improve disease activity, quality of life, and decrease the need for corticosteroids in these patients.
Composition
Each Saphnelo vial contains 300 mg of anifrolumab, as well as excipients necessary for the formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to anifrolumab or to any of the components of the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with active infections, as it may increase the risk of complications due to its immunosuppressive effect.
Precautions
The following precautions should be considered when using Saphnelo: regular monitoring for infections, evaluation of tuberculosis history, and monitoring for hematological adverse effects. It is important to perform laboratory tests periodically to assess renal and liver function in patients undergoing treatment.
Storage
Store in refrigeration between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Keep the vial in its original packaging to protect it from light. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
