Indications
Sandostatin Lar is a medication indicated for the treatment of various medical conditions related to hormone excess, such as in neuroendocrine tumors, including neuroendocrine cell carcinoma of the gastrointestinal and pancreatic tract. This drug is also used in patients with acromegaly who have not responded adequately to surgery or other medical treatments. In addition, it is used in the management of complications associated with excessive hormone secretion, as well as in the control of symptoms such as diarrhea associated with endocrine tumors. Sandostatin Lar acts by inhibiting hormone release and modulating tumor growth.
Composition
Each Sandostatin Lar syringe contains 20 mg of Octreotide and excipients necessary for the proper formulation of the product.
Contraindications
Sandostatin Lar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to octreotide or any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease and in those receiving concomitant treatments that may interact with octreotide.
Precautions
Regular medical follow-up is important during treatment with Sandostatin Lar, especially in patients with liver or kidney problems. Thyroid function monitoring is recommended in patients receiving prolonged treatment. Care should also be taken in patients with impaired glucose control, as octreotide may affect insulin levels.
Storage
Sandostatin Lar should be stored in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
