Indications
Salofalk (mesalazine) is indicated for the treatment and maintenance of remission of active ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Mesalazine acts locally in the intestine, helping to reduce inflammation and associated symptoms, such as diarrhea and rectal bleeding. In addition, it can be used to prevent flare-ups in patients with a history of inflammatory bowel disease. Its use must be supervised by a healthcare professional, who will determine the dose and duration of treatment according to the patient's clinical condition.
Composition
Each suppository contains 1 g of mesalazine as the active ingredient. Excipients: stearic acid, gelatin, glycerin, among others.
Contraindications
Salofalk is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mesalazine, sulfonamides, or any other component of the formula. It should not be used in patients with severe renal insufficiency or with a history of severe allergic reactions to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of kidney disease, as the possibility of kidney damage with the use of mesalazine has been reported. It is important to monitor kidney function during treatment. Care should also be taken in patients with asthma or respiratory diseases, as adverse reactions have occurred in some cases. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to consult their doctor before starting treatment.
