Indications
Rybelsus is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication can be used alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetics. Semaglutide has been shown to help reduce hemoglobin A1c and contribute to weight loss in overweight or obese patients, which is a relevant factor in the management of type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, its efficacy in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes and pre-existing cardiovascular disease has been demonstrated. It is important that the use of Rybelsus is part of a comprehensive approach that includes dietary changes and physical activity.
Composition
Each Rybelsus tablet contains 3 mg of semaglutide as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that aid in the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Rybelsus is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to semaglutide or to any of the product's excipients. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of pancreatitis, as well as in those with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, as Rybelsus can cause gastrointestinal adverse effects. Likewise, it is important to monitor renal function, as the use of semaglutide may be associated with deterioration in renal function in some patients. It is recommended to assess the risk of hypoglycemia when used in combination with other antidiabetics.
