Indications
Risperdal (Risperidone) is indicated for the treatment of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia in adults and adolescents over 15 years of age. It is also indicated for the treatment of manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder in adults. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of irritability associated with autism in children and adolescents aged 5 to 16 years. Risperidone acts on certain neurotransmitters in the brain, helping to improve the symptoms of these conditions.
Composition
Each ml of solution contains 1 mg of risperidone, as well as excipients such as citric acid, sodium citrate, and purified water.
Contraindications
Risperdal is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to risperidone or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with Parkinson's disease and in those with a history of neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Risperdal to patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, liver or kidney disease. It is important to monitor patients for the possible appearance of extrapyramidal symptoms, as well as to assess the risk of metabolic adverse effects, including weight gain and dyslipidemia. Administration in elderly patients with dementia should be carefully evaluated due to the increased risk of adverse events.
Storage
Risperdal solution should be stored at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Protect from light and keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
