Indications
Pulmovax 23 is a vaccine indicated for the prevention of infections caused by serotype 23 pneumococci. It is recommended for adults and children over 2 years of age who are at increased risk of pneumococcal infections, including pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia. Its administration is suggested for individuals with chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, or those with compromised immune systems. Additionally, its use is considered in people over 65 years of age to improve protection against pneumococcal infections, given their high risk in this population. Vaccination can be especially useful in communities with a high incidence of these diseases, contributing to the reduction of associated morbidity and mortality.
Composition
Each pre-filled syringe contains a 0.5 ml dose of the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine, which includes antigens from 23 different serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Contraindications
The administration of Pulmovax 23 is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine. It should not be administered in cases of acute febrile illness or in patients who have previously received a pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine within a short period (less than 5 years).
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering this vaccine to individuals with a history of severe allergic or anaphylactic reactions to previous vaccines. Furthermore, in patients with hematological diseases or those receiving immunosuppressive therapy, it is recommended to consult a physician before vaccination. A complete clinical evaluation is important before administration.
Storage
Pulmovax 23 should be stored in a refrigerator at a temperature between 2°C and 8°C. It must not be frozen. The vaccine should be protected from light and kept in its original packaging until the time of use.

Otherwise, a fee of $170.00 MXN (One hundred seventy Mexican pesos) will be added for a standard package with dimensions up to 20cm x 20cm x 20cm and 1kg in weight, and $290.00 MXN (Two hundred ninety Mexican pesos) for packages exceeding the aforementioned dimensions or weight.
