Indications
Prostigmine is indicated for the treatment of myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness. It is also used in the treatment of postoperative urinary retention and in the reversal of neuromuscular blockade induced by anesthetic agents. Neostigmine acts by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which increases the concentration of acetylcholine at neuromuscular synapses, thus improving nerve impulse transmission and muscle contraction.
Composition
Each ampoule of Prostigmine contains: Neostigmine methyl sulfate, 0.5 mg/ml, excipients necessary for the formulation.
Contraindications
Prostigmine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to neostigmine or any of the excipients. It should also not be used in cases of intestinal or urinary obstruction, uncontrolled bronchial asthma, or in patients with a history of seizures.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using Prostigmine in patients with heart disease, as it can cause bradycardia or disturbances in cardiac conduction. It is also important to monitor patients with a history of epilepsy or obstructive pulmonary diseases, as the medication may exacerbate these disorders.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep in a dry place and away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
