Indications

Proscar is indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men, helping to improve urinary flow and reduce symptoms associated with this condition. Finasteride works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which decreases prostate size and relieves urinary flow obstruction. This medication can also be used in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in men, promoting hair growth on the scalp.

Composition

Each Proscar tablet contains 5 mg of finasteride as the active ingredient. Excipients may include lactose, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other inactive components that facilitate tablet formulation.

Contraindications

Proscar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to finasteride or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to women, especially during pregnancy, as it can cause abnormalities in the sexual development of a male fetus. Furthermore, it should not be used in children.

Precautions

Patients undergoing treatment with Proscar should be regularly monitored by their doctor. Special care should be taken in patients with a history of male breast cancer, as cases of breast cancer have been reported in men taking finasteride. It is also recommended to evaluate liver function before starting treatment, as finasteride is metabolized in the liver.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package.
