Indications
Pristiq is indicated for the treatment of major depressive episodes in adults. It is used to relieve symptoms of depression, including sadness, loss of interest in activities, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. It has also been used in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Desvenlafaxine acts as a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, contributing to the improvement of the patient's mood and functionality.
Composition
Each Pristiq tablet contains 50 mg of desvenlafaxine as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients that facilitate its formulation and stability.
Contraindications
Pristiq is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to desvenlafaxine or any of the components of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients receiving treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and in those with a history of manic disorders or uncontrolled seizures.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Pristiq to patients with a history of bipolar disorders, liver or kidney problems, and those taking other medications that affect serotonin. It is essential to monitor for the appearance of serotonin syndrome symptoms, as well as changes in mood or behavior.
