Indications
Pradaxar is indicated for the prevention of thromboembolic events in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, as well as for the prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery, such as hip or knee replacement. It is also used in the treatment of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, as well as in the prevention of recurrences of these conditions.
Composition
Each Pradaxar capsule contains 150 mg of dabigatran etexilate, as the active ingredient, and excipients that allow for the capsule formulation.
Contraindications
Pradaxar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dabigatran or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with active significant bleeding, bleeding disorders, severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 15 ml/min), and in those receiving concomitant treatment with potent P-glycoprotein inhibitors.
Precautions
Precautions should be taken in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, as well as in those at risk of bleeding. Adequate monitoring is recommended in these patients. In addition, a risk-benefit assessment should be considered in patients over 75 years of age and in those taking other medications that may increase the risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package.
