Indications
Pradaxar is indicated for the prevention of venous thromboembolic events in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery. It is also used in the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, as well as for the treatment and prevention of recurrent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. The molecule Dabigatran acts as a direct thrombin inhibitor, which helps prevent the formation of blood clots.
Composition
Each Pradaxar capsule contains 150 mg of Dabigatran etexilate, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and stability.
Contraindications
Pradaxar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Dabigatran or any of the excipients in the formulation. Likewise, it should not be administered to patients with a history of active gastrointestinal bleeding, severe bleeding disorders, or severe renal impairment (Glomerular Filtration Rate <30 mL/min). Its use should be avoided in patients who are receiving concomitant therapy with oral anticoagulants or who have a specific contraindication according to medical evaluation.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using Pradaxar in patients with moderate renal impairment, elderly patients, and those at increased risk of bleeding. Adequate monitoring of renal function is recommended before starting treatment and during its use. Furthermore, it is important to inform the doctor about any concomitant medication the patient is taking, as there may be interactions that affect the efficacy or safety of the treatment.
Storage
Store Pradaxar at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
