Indications
Pradaxar (Dabigatran) is indicated for the prevention of thromboembolic events in patients who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery. It is also recommended for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. Additionally, it is used in the treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Pradaxar therapy should be supervised by a physician, who will assess the suitability and appropriate dose according to the individual characteristics of the patient.
Composition
Each Pradaxar capsule contains 110 mg of dabigatran etexilate, a direct thrombin inhibitor. Excipients include: hypromellose, mannitol, and other components necessary for the capsule formulation.
Contraindications
Pradaxar is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dabigatran or any of the excipients in the formulation. Likewise, it should not be administered to patients with significant active bleeding, a history of life-threatening gastrointestinal or systemic bleeding, or those with severe renal impairment (GFR < 30 mL/min). Its use is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients at high risk of bleeding, including conditions such as uncontrolled hypertension, bleeding disorders, or those receiving concomitant treatment with other anticoagulants. Regular monitoring of renal function is recommended, given that dabigatran is primarily excreted via this route. Additionally, the physician should be informed of any scheduled surgery or invasive procedures.
Storage
Pradaxar should be stored at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in its original packaging and protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
