Indications
Plavix (Clopidogrel) is indicated for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients with cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, or peripheral arterial disease. This medication is used in patients who have experienced an acute myocardial infarction, as well as in those who have received a coronary stent. In addition, its use is recommended in patients with acute coronary syndrome, both in stable and unstable phases.
Clopidogrel acts by inhibiting platelet aggregation, which reduces the risk of thrombus formation and, consequently, decreases the likelihood of adverse cardiovascular events. It is important to note that this medication may be used in combination with acetylsalicylic acid under certain clinical conditions, under appropriate medical supervision and recommendation.
Composition
Each Plavix tablet contains 75 mg of clopidogrel (as clopidogrel hydrochloride) as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that allow for the formulation and stability of the product.
Contraindications
Plavix is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to clopidogrel or any of its excipients. It is also contraindicated in those with a history of active pathological bleeding, such as gastric ulcers or intracranial hemorrhages. Patients with severe hepatic insufficiency and those requiring concomitant anticoagulants should avoid its use.
Precautions
It is essential to conduct medical follow-up in patients at risk of bleeding, as well as in those undergoing treatment with other medications that may increase the risk of bleeding. Caution is recommended in patients with moderate renal or hepatic insufficiency. Furthermore, Plavix administration should be stopped at least five days before any scheduled surgical procedure.
