Indications
Pepto Bismol is a medication indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea and upset stomach, including nausea and heartburn. Its action is based on forming a protective layer over the gastric mucosa and reducing inflammation, which helps alleviate symptoms associated with indigestion and gastritis. It is frequently used in cases of gastroenteritis and can be helpful in treating diarrhea caused by bacterial infections. Additionally, it can be used in the management of dyspepsia, providing relief to patients who experience feelings of fullness or discomfort after meals.
Composition
Each 100 ml of suspension contains 1.75 mg of bismuth subsalicylate as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients such as flavorings, preservatives, and purified water.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bismuth subsalicylate or any other component of the formula. It should not be used in children under 12 years of age without medical supervision. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of peptic ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding.
Precautions
Caution is advised in patients with a history of kidney disease or those taking anticoagulant medications. It is important not to exceed the recommended dose and to consult a doctor if symptoms persist for more than two days.
