Indications
Pepto Bismol Suspension is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea, upset stomach, nausea, indigestion, and heartburn. Its action is due to the properties of bismuth subsalicylate, which coats the gastric mucosa and acts as an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic agent. Its use is recommended in cases of acute gastroenteritis and as part of the treatment for managing various gastrointestinal symptoms. Additionally, it can be useful in preventing traveler's diarrhea, helping to control inflammation and irritation of the digestive tract.
Composition
Each 100 ml of suspension contains: 1.75 g of bismuth subsalicylate. Excipients: purified water, flavorings, xanthan gum, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bismuth subsalicylate or to any of the components of the formula. It should not be used in patients with a history of gastric ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding. It is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age, unless otherwise directed by a physician.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease or those taking anticoagulants, as bismuth subsalicylate can affect coagulation. Prolonged use without medical supervision is advisable to avoid. The recommended dose should not be exceeded, and a doctor should be consulted if symptoms persist for more than two days.
