Indications
Pepto Bismol is indicated for the treatment of acute diarrhea, upset stomach, nausea, indigestion, and gastritis. Bismuth subsalicylate acts by coating the gastric mucosa and relieving irritation, in addition to having anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. It is effective in reducing symptoms associated with indigestion and upset stomach, thus facilitating a quick recovery for the patient.
Composition
Each tablet contains: 262.4 mg of bismuth subsalicylate as the active ingredient. Excipients: sugar, flavorings, colorants, and other components for product formulation.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to bismuth subsalicylate or any of the components of the formula. It should not be used in patients with gastric ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding. It is also contraindicated in children under 12 years of age without medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney disease, as prolonged use may affect renal function. Likewise, it is recommended to consult a doctor before using the medication if pregnant or breastfeeding. If symptoms persist for more than 48 hours, medical attention should be sought.
