Indications
Pepto Bismol Chewable is a medication indicated for the treatment of symptoms related to gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea, indigestion, upset stomach, nausea, and heartburn. Its action is based on forming a protective layer over the gastric mucosa, which helps relieve irritation. It can also be used for the treatment of mild gastritis and for the management of dyspepsia symptoms, providing a calming effect on the stomach.
Composition
Each Pepto Bismol tablet contains 262 mg of bismuth subsalicylate as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that facilitate its formulation and flavor.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to bismuth subsalicylate or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to children under 12 years of age without medical supervision. It is also contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of kidney problems or those who are taking anticoagulants, as bismuth subsalicylate can interact with these medications. Likewise, its use should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation, unless indicated by a doctor. It is important not to exceed the recommended dose to avoid bismuth toxicity.
