Indications
Pepto Bismol is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea, upset stomach, nausea, and heartburn. Its action is based on forming a protective barrier on the gastric mucosa, which helps relieve irritation and provides an anti-inflammatory effect. It is also used in cases of indigestion and gastrointestinal discomfort associated with the ingestion of irritating foods or in stressful situations.
Composition
Each tablet contains 262.5 mg of bismuth subsalicylate, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to bismuth subsalicylate or any of the components of the formula. It should not be used in people with a history of gastric ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal failure.
Precautions
It is recommended to use Pepto Bismol with caution in patients with kidney disease, as well as in those undergoing anticoagulant treatment or who have bleeding problems. It is important to avoid prolonged use of the medication without the supervision of a healthcare professional. Also, it should be noted that excessive use can cause adverse effects such as darkening of the stools.
