Indications
Oxycontin is indicated for the management of chronic moderate to severe pain in patients requiring continuous opioid treatment. It is especially useful in cases where pain is intense and does not respond adequately to non-opioid therapies. This medication is primarily used in the treatment of pain associated with conditions such as cancer, postoperative pain, and persistent pain that affects the patient's quality of life. Oxycodone acts on the central nervous system, altering the perception and emotional response to pain.
Composition
Each Oxycontin tablet contains 10 mg of oxycodone as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as starch, microcrystalline cellulose, and other formulation agents that facilitate the controlled release of the medication.
Contraindications
Oxycontin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxycodone or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in patients with severe respiratory depression, acute bronchial asthma, or in situations where there is a risk of intestinal obstruction. Its use in patients with a history of substance abuse or opioid dependence should be carefully evaluated.
