Indications

Onglyza is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in combination with diet and exercise, to improve glycemic control. It can be used as monotherapy in those who cannot tolerate metformin, or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin, when diet and exercise are not sufficient to maintain adequate blood glucose control. This medicine works by increasing incretin levels, which in turn stimulates insulin secretion and decreases glucagon release, contributing to a reduction in blood glucose.

Composition

Each Onglyza tablet contains: Saxagliptin 5 mg as active ingredient. Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Onglyza is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to saxagliptin or any of the product's excipients. Its use is not recommended in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatitis, as well as in those with moderate to severe renal insufficiency. Renal function should be monitored before and during treatment. This medication is not a substitute for insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes who require insulin.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C, protected from light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children.
