Indications
Novina (Pravastatin) is indicated as part of a comprehensive regimen for the reduction of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. This medication is used in adults and children over 8 years of age with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and in patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease. Pravastatin works by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which plays a crucial role in cholesterol synthesis in the liver. Its use is indicated in combination with lifestyle changes, such as diet, exercise, and weight control, to improve blood lipid levels.
Composition
Each Novina tablet contains 10 mg of pravastatin as the active ingredient, as well as excipients necessary for the formulation of the medication. For specific information on excipients, consult the leaflet.
Contraindications
Novina is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pravastatin or any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in those with active or persistent liver disease, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as in patients with elevated blood transaminase levels.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease, alcoholism, or those taking other medications that may increase the risk of myopathy. Therefore, regular monitoring of liver enzymes and blood creatine kinase levels should be performed. In addition, it is essential to consult your doctor before starting treatment with Novina if you are taking any other medication that may interact with pravastatin.
Storage
Keep this medication at room temperature, in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children. Do not use this medication after the expiration date indicated on the package.
