Indications
Novacarel is indicated for the prevention of urinary toxicity associated with the use of chemotherapeutic agents, specifically as a protector of the bladder mucosa in patients receiving cyclophosphamide or ifosfamide. This medication acts as a detoxifying agent, reducing the formation of toxic metabolites that can cause damage to the bladder, which allows for better tolerance to oncological treatment. Additionally, it can be used in the prevention of hemorrhagic cystitis induced by the administration of these drugs. Its use must be under the supervision of a physician, who will determine the dose and duration of treatment according to the patient's clinical characteristics.
Composition
Each Novacarel ampoule contains 400 mg of Mesna, as well as excipients necessary for its formulation and stability.
Contraindications
Novacarel is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Mesna or to any of the excipients in the formula. Caution should also be exercised in patients with severe renal insufficiency, as the elimination of Mesna may be affected, increasing the risk of toxicity.
Precautions
The use of Novacarel is recommended with caution in patients with a history of kidney disease or those receiving other treatments that may compromise renal function. Likewise, adequate patient hydration is essential during treatment. The use of Mesna should not replace other necessary medical care for the management of urinary toxicity and should be part of a comprehensive approach in the treatment of oncology patients.
