Indications

Niar (Selegiline) is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease in patients who require complementary treatment to levodopa therapy. It is also used as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of resistant depression, when other antidepressants have not shown effectiveness. Selegiline acts as a selective monoamine oxidase type B inhibitor, which results in an increase in dopamine levels in the brain, thus improving motor symptoms and quality of life in patients with Parkinson's.

Composition

Each Niar tablet contains 5 mg of Selegiline as the active ingredient. Excipients: Lactose, corn starch, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Selegiline or any of its components. It should not be administered in combination with certain antidepressants, such as non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitors, due to the possibility of adverse interactions. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of severe liver disease.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or in those receiving other medications that may interact with Selegiline. Regular medical follow-up is important during treatment, as well as dose adjustment if adverse effects occur. The consumption of foods rich in tyramine should be avoided during treatment, as they can cause hypertensive crises.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, protected from light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children.
