Indications
Nexium (esomeprazole) is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to excessive acid production in the stomach. These include:
- Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults and children over 1 year of age.
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics for the prevention of gastric ulcers.
- Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
- Prevention of ulcers induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in high-risk patients.
Composition
Each Nexium sachet contains:
- Esomeprazole (as esomeprazole magnesium) 2.5 mg.
- Excipients: sugar (sucrose), raspberry flavor, among others.
Contraindications
Nexium is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, to any other proton pump inhibitor, or to any of the components of the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of severe liver disease.
Precautions
Special care is recommended for patients with moderate to severe liver disease. Prolonged use of Nexium may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, and kidney problems. The need for treatment should be evaluated in cases of persistent symptoms or in patients over 50 years of age.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
