Indications
Neurontin (Gabapentin) is indicated for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia, a painful condition that can occur after an episode of herpes zoster. It is also used as adjunctive therapy in the management of partial seizures in patients with epilepsy. Gabapentin can be used for the treatment of neuropathic pain and has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving the quality of life in patients with various chronic painful conditions. In addition, it can be part of a broader therapeutic regimen for the management of anxiety disorders.
Composition
Each Neurontin capsule contains 400 mg of gabapentin as the active ingredient. In addition, it includes excipients such as starch, gelatin, colorants, and other components that facilitate the formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
Neurontin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gabapentin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of allergic reactions to other anticonvulsant medications.
Precautions
It is recommended to use Neurontin under strict medical supervision in patients with kidney diseases, as gabapentin is primarily eliminated through the kidneys. Likewise, care should be taken in patients with a history of depression or mood disorders, as there may be an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. It is important to inform your doctor about all medications being taken to avoid interactions.
Storage
Store Neurontin at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
