Indications
Neupogen (Filgrastim) is indicated for the prevention of febrile neutropenia in patients treated with cytotoxic chemotherapy, as well as for the treatment of neutropenia in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes. It is also used in patients who have received a hematopoietic stem cell transplant and in those with HIV-associated neutropenia. Filgrastim acts by stimulating the production and release of neutrophils in the bone marrow, which contributes to reducing the risk of infections in these patients.
Composition
Each Neupogen syringe contains 300 Mcg of Filgrastim, as well as excipients that facilitate its administration.
Contraindications
Neupogen is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Filgrastim or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with acute myeloid leukemia blast crisis.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) due to an increased risk of pulmonary adverse reactions. It is also important to monitor patients for possible adverse reactions, including bone pain and splenomegaly. Renal function should be evaluated in patients with severe renal insufficiency.
Storage
Store refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. Keep in its original packaging to protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
