Indications
Menactra is indicated for active immunization of individuals 9 months of age and older for the prevention of invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135. Vaccination is especially recommended for people in high-risk groups, including those living in closed communities such as university dorms or military barracks. Additionally, its administration is suggested for adolescents and young adults, as well as travelers to areas where meningococcal disease is endemic.
Composition
Each 0.5 mL dose of Menactra contains:
- Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 capsular polysaccharides (conjugated to a carrier protein)
- Excipients: sodium phosphate, sodium chloride, water for injection.
Contraindications
Menactra should not be administered to individuals who have experienced anaphylactic reactions to previous doses of this vaccine or to any of its components, as well as in cases of acute febrile illness or severe immunosuppressive disease.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in its administration to individuals with a history of bleeding disorders, as well as those who have recently received other vaccines. It is recommended to consult a doctor if the person has a compromised immune system.
Storage
Menactra should be stored refrigerated between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
