Indications
Maxitrol is indicated in the treatment of various inflammatory conditions of the eye and its adnexa that may be susceptible to bacterial infection. It is used in cases of conjunctivitis, keratitis, and other conditions where anti-inflammatory and antibacterial treatment is required. This medication is effective in controlling inflammation and preventing infections due to its combination of an antibiotic (neomycin and polymyxin) and a corticosteroid (dexamethasone). Furthermore, its use is recommended in postoperative situations to reduce the risk of infection and control ocular inflammation.
Composition
Each gram of Maxitrol ointment contains: Neomycin sulfate 3500 IU, Polymyxin B sulfate 6000 IU, and Dexamethasone 1 mg.
Contraindications
Maxitrol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components. It should not be used in viral or fungal infections, nor in patients with ocular herpes simplex, ocular tuberculosis, or in conditions where the infection may be aggravated.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using this medication in patients with glaucoma or cataracts, as prolonged use of corticosteroids can aggravate these conditions. Regular medical monitoring during treatment is recommended to evaluate efficacy and the appearance of adverse effects.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C. Keep the container tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
