Indications
Lopid (gemfibrozil) is indicated for the treatment of dyslipidemias, specifically to reduce elevated triglyceride levels and increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels in patients with hypertriglyceridemia and mixed hyperlipidemia. This medication is useful in the management of patients who have not responded adequately to dietary changes and other non-pharmacological treatments. Its use is recommended in combination with a low-fat diet and an appropriate exercise program. Additionally, it may be indicated in cases where a significant reduction in triglyceride levels is required to prevent associated complications, such as pancreatitis.
Composition
Each Lopid tablet contains 600 mg of gemfibrozil as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients necessary for its formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gemfibrozil or any of the excipients in the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, severe kidney disease, and those receiving medications that may interact negatively with gemfibrozil, such as certain anticoagulants and statins.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver, kidney, or pancreatic disease. It is important to monitor liver and kidney function during treatment with gemfibrozil. Alcohol consumption should be avoided, as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Additionally, the risk-benefit ratio should be carefully evaluated in patients who are taking other medications that may cause interactions.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 ºC, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
