Indications

Lipitor (Atorvastatin) is indicated for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia (Type IIa and IIb) and in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Additionally, it is indicated for the reduction of triglyceride levels and for increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels. Lipitor is also used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases in high-risk patients, including those with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or a family history of coronary heart disease.

Composition

Each Lipitor tablet contains 20 mg of atorvastatin as an active ingredient, as well as excipients that enable the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or with persistent elevations of serum transaminases. Its use is not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of muscle diseases, as well as in those who have risk factors for myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, such as the concomitant use of certain medications. Regular monitoring of liver enzymes during treatment is important.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Keep in its original packaging and out of reach of children.
