Indications
Lipitor (atorvastatin) is indicated for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also used to decrease the risk of cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes mellitus, by reducing cholesterol levels and improving overall cardiovascular health. Atorvastatin is particularly effective in reducing triglycerides and increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels.
Composition
Each Lipitor tablet contains 10 mg of atorvastatin as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains inactive excipients that facilitate its formulation and administration.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any component of the formulation. It should not be administered to patients with active liver disease, including hepatitis and persistent elevations of transaminases, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, excessive alcohol consumption, and those taking other medications that may interact with atorvastatin. It is important to perform liver function tests before starting treatment and to monitor regularly during its use. Patients should be informed about the possibility of muscle side effects, such as myositis or rhabdomyolysis.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
