Indications
Lexapro is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Escitalopram acts on the central nervous system by increasing serotonin levels, which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety. This medication can be prescribed for the treatment of anxiety symptoms, as well as for the prevention of depressive episodes in patients with a history of affective disorders.
Composition
Each Lexapro tablet contains 20 mg of escitalopram as the active ingredient. Additionally, it contains excipients such as lactose monohydrate, corn starch, and magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Lexapro is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to escitalopram or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or in patients with a history of serotonin syndrome. It should also be avoided in patients with a history of mania or hypomania.
Precautions
Careful monitoring is recommended in patients with a history of seizure disorders, liver or kidney diseases, as well as in those receiving concomitant treatment with other medications that affect the serotonergic system. It is important to exercise caution when discontinuing treatment, as it may cause discontinuation symptoms.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
