Indications

Lexapro is indicated for the treatment of major depressive episodes in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. It is also indicated for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder in adults. Escitalopram has been shown to help improve mood, sleep, concentration, and interest in daily life. Additionally, it may be useful in managing anxiety symptoms, such as excessive worry and muscle tension. It is important that the use of this medication is supervised by a healthcare professional, who will evaluate the response to treatment and adjust the dose as needed.

Composition

Each Lexapro tablet contains 10 mg of escitalopram (as escitalopram oxalate) as the active ingredient. Excipients include: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide.

Contraindications

Lexapro is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to escitalopram or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or in patients receiving treatment with metoprolol or pimozide. It is contraindicated in patients with a history of serotonin syndrome.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of manic disorders, epilepsy, liver or kidney problems. Patients at high risk of suicide should also be monitored, especially at the beginning of treatment or after a change in dosage. It is essential to inform your doctor about any medications you are taking to avoid interactions.

Storage

Lexapro should be stored at room temperature, between 15 °C and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
