Indications
Lantus Solostar is indicated for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children. It is an insulin analog with a prolonged action, providing stable glycemic control for 24 hours. It is used to improve blood glucose control in patients who do not achieve adequate control with other oral antidiabetics or insulin. Dosage adjustment is recommended according to the patient's individual needs, as well as frequent monitoring of glucose levels to avoid hypoglycemic episodes.
Composition
Each ml of Lantus Solostar contains 100 units of insulin glargine. Excipients include water for injection, hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to insulin glargine or any of the excipients. It should not be used in cases of diabetic ketoacidosis or in patients experiencing severe hypoglycemic episodes.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney or liver disease, as well as in those with a history of hypoglycemic episodes. It is important to educate patients on the recognition and management of hypoglycemia. Additionally, interactions with other medications that may alter blood glucose levels should be considered.
Storage
Store refrigerated between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Once in use, the pen can be stored at room temperature (less than 30 °C) for a maximum of 28 days. Keep out of reach of children.
