Indications
Lactulax is indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation. Lactulose, its active ingredient, acts as an osmotic laxative that increases the water content in the intestine, thus facilitating intestinal transit. It is used in patients who require relief from constipation, including those with special conditions such as hemorrhoids or post-operative situations where straining during defecation should be avoided. It can also be used in the management of hepatic encephalopathy, as it helps reduce ammonia levels in the blood, promoting better elimination of toxins from the body.
Composition
Each sachet of Lactulax contains 10 g of lactulose as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients that facilitate the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Lactulax is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lactulose or any of the excipients in the formula. Its use is also not recommended in patients with intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation, or gastrointestinal diseases that may be complicated by the use of osmotic laxatives.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with diabetes mellitus, as lactulose may affect blood glucose levels. Additionally, in case of persistent abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, treatment should be discontinued and a doctor consulted. Prolonged administration of laxatives can lead to dependence, so it is suggested to use Lactulax only according to medical instructions.
