Indications
Keppra (Levetiracetam) is indicated as a treatment for epilepsy in patients aged 4 years and older. It is used as adjunctive therapy in partial onset seizures, generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and myoclonic seizures. The effectiveness of the medication has been proven in various clinical studies, where a significant reduction in the frequency of epileptic seizures has been observed. Its use is recommended in patients who have not responded adequately to other antiepileptic treatments. It is important to follow the instructions of the treating physician, who will determine the appropriate dose and the most suitable therapeutic regimen for each patient.
Composition
Each 5 ml of Keppra contains 100 mg of Levetiracetam as the active ingredient. Excipients include: purified water, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and others.
Contraindications
Keppra is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Levetiracetam or any of the excipients in the formulation. Special caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of psychiatric disorders, as the use of Levetiracetam may worsen these disorders.
Precautions
It is recommended to monitor patients during treatment, especially those with kidney disease, as drug elimination may be affected in this population. Additionally, care should be taken with abrupt treatment discontinuation, as this may induce an increase in the frequency of epileptic seizures. It is essential to consult a doctor if unusual symptoms or adverse effects appear.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep the medication in its original packaging, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
