Indications
Keflex (Cephalexin) is indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections. It is used in respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, bronchitis, and pharyngitis. It is also effective in skin and soft tissue infections, as well as urinary tract infections. Furthermore, it can be used in the treatment of bone and joint infections, as well as in some cases of acute otitis media.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains 250 mg of cephalexin in the form of cephalexin monohydrate, as well as excipients necessary for the formulation of the product.
Contraindications
Keflex is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalexin, to other antibiotics of the same class, or to any of the components of the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to any antibiotic of the cephalosporin group.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis. Renal function should be evaluated before starting treatment, as the dose may require adjustments in patients with renal impairment. Prolonged use may result in superinfection by resistant organisms.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature (between 15 and 30 °C). Protect from light and moisture. Once opened, the suspension must be used within 14 days and refrigeration is not recommended.
