Indications
Kaomycin is a suspension indicated for the treatment of acute diarrhea, especially that caused by bacteria sensitive to neomycin. This medication can be used in conditions where an antimicrobial effect in the gastrointestinal tract is required. In addition, it is used for the protection of the intestinal mucosa, promoting the adsorption of toxins and providing a protective effect through the action of pectin and kaolin, which act as adsorbent agents and stabilizers of the intestinal flora. It is important to consider its use in patients with symptoms of diarrhea who require medical attention and advice for appropriate treatment.
Composition
Each 100 ml of the suspension contains: 0.71 g of Neomycin, 20 g of Kaolin and 1 g of Pectin.
Contraindications
Kaomycin is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its components, as well as in those with severe kidney diseases or conditions that may be aggravated by the administration of antibiotics. Its use in patients with ulcerative colitis or active inflammatory bowel disease is not recommended. Likewise, it should be avoided in children under two years of age without medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders or allergies to antibiotics. Medical follow-up is recommended during treatment, especially in elderly patients or those with chronic conditions that may require dosage adjustment. Prolonged administration may result in superinfections by resistant microorganisms.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
