Indications
Kaomycin is a medication indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea caused by various bacterial infections. The combination of neomycin, kaolin, and pectin acts synergistically to reduce the frequency and severity of diarrheal episodes, providing symptomatic relief. Neomycin is an antibiotic that helps combat pathogenic bacteria in the intestine, while kaolin and pectin act as adsorbing agents, helping to stabilize stools and reduce intestinal irritation. This medication is particularly useful in cases where rapid action is required to control diarrhea, as well as in preventing dehydration associated with this condition.
Composition
Each tablet contains:
- Neomycin: 129 mg
- Kaolin: 280 mg
- Pectin: 30 mg
Contraindications
Kaomycin is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components, as well as in those with severe kidney disease. Its use is not recommended in cases of diarrhea caused by pathogenic microorganisms not sensitive to neomycin. Likewise, its use in combination with other antibiotics should be carefully evaluated by a physician.
Precautions
It is important that the use of Kaomycin be supervised by a healthcare professional. Precautions should be taken in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders or those taking medications that may affect kidney function. Adequate monitoring is suggested in elderly patients or those with comorbidities.
