Indications
Jardianz Duo is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients who have not achieved adequate control with metformin alone. This medication can be administered in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin, when necessary. Jardianz Duo works by reducing blood glucose by increasing urinary glucose excretion (empagliflozin) and improving insulin sensitivity and decreasing hepatic glucose production (metformin).
Composition
Each Jardianz Duo tablet contains 12.5 mg of empagliflozin and 850 mg of metformin as active ingredients. Excipients: talc, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Jardianz Duo is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the components of the formula, in those with severe kidney disease (eGFR < 30 mL/min), in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, and in those with severe liver diseases.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with moderate renal insufficiency, dehydration, urinary tract infections, and in the elderly. Renal function should be monitored before and during treatment. Additionally, it is important to consider the risk of hypoglycemia if combined with other antidiabetics.
Storage
Store in its original packaging, protected from light and moisture, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
