Indications
Jardianz Duo is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in combination with diet and exercise, to improve glycemic control. This medication is used in patients who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control with metformin alone, or in those who require additional treatment to control their glucose levels. Jardianz Duo can be used as initial therapy in patients with a body mass index (BMI) equal to or greater than 27 kg/m², in addition to type 2 diabetes, when multi-agent treatment is recommended. The combination of empagliflozin and metformin acts complementarily, promoting blood glucose reduction and contributing to weight loss in some patients.
Composition
Each tablet of Jardianz Duo contains: 12.5 mg empagliflozin and 1000 mg metformin. In addition, it includes excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and other components that facilitate product formulation.
Contraindications
Jardianz Duo is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula, in those with severe kidney diseases or conditions that can lead to dehydration. It is also contraindicated in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis and in those with severe hepatic insufficiency.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases, as well as in those who may be at risk of dehydration. Regular monitoring of renal function is recommended in patients receiving this medication. Furthermore, it is important to assess the risk of hypoglycemia, especially if combined with other antidiabetic agents.
