Indications
Jardiance is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, as an adjunct to diet and appropriate exercise, to improve glycemic control. This medication can be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic drugs, including insulin and metformin, in patients who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control. Jardiance has also shown benefits in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
Composition
Each Jardiance tablet contains 25 mg of empagliflozin as the active ingredient. Excipients include: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Jardiance is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to empagliflozin or any of the excipients. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also contraindicated in those with severely reduced renal function (eGFR < 30 mL/min) or in patients on dialysis.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections, dehydration, or at risk of hypotension due to intravascular volume depletion. It is important to monitor renal function before and during treatment with Jardiance. It is recommended to periodically assess blood glucose and the patient's hydration status.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
