Indications
Invokana is indicated as an adjunct to an appropriate diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. This medication is used in patients who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control with metformin alone, or in combination with other oral antidiabetics. It can also be used in combination with insulin, depending on the patient's clinical condition. Canagliflozin works by decreasing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, which increases its urinary excretion and thus contributes to the reduction of blood glucose concentration.
Composition
Each Invokana tablet contains 300 mg of canagliflozin as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients suitable for its formulation.
Contraindications
Invokana is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to canagliflozin or to any of the product's excipients. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment or those undergoing dialysis.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections, dehydration, or those at risk of amputations. It is important to monitor renal function before and during treatment with Invokana, as well as to be aware of possible adverse effects such as hypoglycemia, especially in combination with other antidiabetics. Periodic evaluation of the patient's cardiovascular health is suggested.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
