Indications
Invokana is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics, as well as with insulin, when adequate glycemic control is not achieved with other drugs. Canagliflozin works by reducing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, thereby promoting its excretion through urine and helping to lower blood glucose levels.
Composition
Each tablet contains 100 mg of canagliflozin as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and absorption.
Contraindications
Invokana is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to canagliflozin or any of the product's components. It is also contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and in those with diabetic ketoacidosis. It should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min) or in those receiving dialysis.
Precautions
Caution is advised in patients with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections, dehydration, or those at risk of decreased renal function. It is important to monitor renal function before and during treatment. The presence of signs of ketoacidosis should be evaluated and treatment adjusted accordingly.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
