Indications
Imigran is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. This medication acts as a selective serotonin receptor agonist (5-HT1B and 5-HT1D), which helps reduce inflammation and relieve headache pain. Its use is recommended for migraine episodes that present symptoms such as moderate to severe pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound. Imigran is not indicated for the prevention of migraines and should not be used to treat other types of headaches.
Composition
Each Imigran tablet contains 50 mg of sumatriptan as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that facilitate its formulation and absorption, which are detailed in the product leaflet.
Contraindications
Imigran is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to sumatriptan or any other component of the medication. It is also contraindicated in patients with cardiovascular disease, a history of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, cerebrovascular accident, or transient ischemic attacks. It should not be administered to patients who are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 24 hours after the administration of other serotonin receptor agonists.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular risk factors, uncontrolled hypertension, or those who experience unusual symptoms during treatment. Its use is not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women without adequate medical supervision. It is important to evaluate the patient's response to treatment and consider the need for dose adjustments or changes in the therapeutic regimen.
Storage
Imigran should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use the medicine after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
